Electric vehicles versus combustion: which one really pollutes more?

Electric vehicles versus combustion: which one really pollutes more?

Mobility is changing drastically. Our society is increasingly leaving combustion engines behind and opting for more sustainable possibilities like electric vehicles. After decades of research and efforts, public administrations worldwide, like United Nations and the European Comission, are finally taking commitments about sustainable mobility, joining sustainable development objectives like those promoted by UN for 2030.

Despite all this changes, there’s still lots of information and sources that try to debunk the sustainability and cleanness of electric mobility against combustion engines. Usually, they try to do it arguing that, even though electric vehicles don’t pollute by themselves, the process for generating the energy certainly does. These sources also often claim that wasted electric vehicle batteries and the extraction of raw materials needed to make them also pollute a lot.

But most of these accusations usually are not in line with reality. Besides academic and technical studies, that had proven systematically the sustainability of electric mobility against fossil fuel one, it is also important to disclose these comparisons. And there’s lots of communicators working on it, including GasTroll’s YouTube channel.

In one of its videos, created in collaboration with Fully Charged, this electric mobility channel analyses how much each process of energy acquisition, transport and usage pollutes in both cases: electric vehicles and diesel ones. Through this comparison, the video shows that the latter produce a lot more pollution, with very clear numbers which help to understand the magnitude of the difference between these two kinds of mobility.

We encourage you to watch the video and take your our thoughts about it:

‘Barcelona Endolla’ inaugurates its 1000th charging point

The vast majority of charging points in Barcelona Serveis Municipals (BSM)’s public network are Circontrol products. The collaboration between Circontrol and Barcelona Serveis Municipals (BSM) began in 2011, when hardly anyone was talking about electric mobility. Today, thirteen years later, the public network ‘Barcelona Endolla’ has inaugurated its one-thousandth charging point, a milestone that has […]
