Great news for the evolution of the market for pure electric vehicles in southwestern Europe. According to the data published by ACEA (European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association)  the second quarter of 2022 is showing good results regarding sales of the different kinds of electric vehicle, that grew by 11,1% in Europe, showing specially good results for Spain and France.

This two countries have experienced a significant growth of battery electric vehicles (BEV), with double-digit gains (22% for the Spanish market and 18,6% for the French one), leading the growth in the continent. Both countries also experienced a remarkable increase in the Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEV) market, with France leading the way with a 7,2% expansion, and Spain also showed an important growth for the Plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEV) of about a 11,3%.

This means good news for the electric vehicle implementation in a difficult context for other countries like Italy or Germany, that experienced a worse scenario in this second quarter, with important declines of 19,6% for BEVs in the Italian market and 16,9% for PHEVs in the Central European country. Other kinds of alternatively-powered vehicles (APV) experienced even more discouraging results, like natural-gas vehicles (NGV), which plunged by 62,9% across the European Union.

Petrol and diesel cars’ sales got also bad news, plumbing in this period up to the 55,8% of the total market share: a 6,2% loss compared with 2021’s second quarter. The market share of petrol fell by over 3 percentage points, accounting for 38,5% of total sales, while diesel’s market share dropped to 17,3% of total passenger car registrations.
